Over the past 45 years, VINS has been an important and integral part of the Upper Valley community. As a member of this community, you are invited to a celebration in honor of this significant milestone.
In 1970, the pollution of the Ottauquechee River was a great concern to many communities. Led by a group of committed individuals, studies were conducted to determine the level of pollution; and the findings were highly unsettling. Four volunteers took the initiative to create a movement of cleaning up the River.
Following intensive efforts and with support from the community, these volunteers restored the river to good health and its natural beauty. In October 1972, this group of inspired volunteers - David Laughlin, Sally Laughlin, June McKnight and Richard Farrar, established the Vermont Institute of Natural Science to further science-based environmental education and guide more people to an understanding of the natural world.
Thank you to the community, both local and far, for your support throughout all these years.
