ONE "ready to hang" painting may be submitted for judging in the competition. Please remember that the authentication stamp must be visible on the back of the painting surface when you submit your entries. All entries must be framed or presented for display.

Judging
The judges evaluate each competition entry for composition, originality, presentation, skill, technique, and the freshness that is the spirit of the en plein air genre.
The "Best of Show" Purchase Award winning painting will be marked “Not for Sale.”
Submissions will be considered for awards in the following Award Categories:

Submissions will be considered for awards in the following Award Categories:
- Best of Show Award – Judged by an honored guest of an Upper Valley Arts organization.
- Aquatic Ecosystem Painting – Display of the natural beauty of riparian environments.
- Nocturnal Painting – This theme will be ethereal, moonlit, starry nights. The Full Moon will be on October 5th.
- Avian Art – Illustration of an artist's personal representation of the Vermont Institute of Natural Science's avian inhabitant.
- People’s Choice – Visitors of the Vermont Institute of Natural Science nominate their favorite from among the exhibited works.
- Youth – 17 years of age and younger use their imaginations and senses to create something wondrous and divergent.
